Deploy Hop on Status Network - Gasless L2

Contact person - Rahul (TG - @theCyberMonk, Mail - rahulparmar@status[dot]im)

Summary

This proposal seeks to deploy Hop Protocol on Status Network, the first natively gasless zkEVM L2 built on the Linea stack. Status Network provides free transactions to users, incentivizes liquidity with native yields, and funds public apps sustainably through a community-governed funding pool. Integrating Hop Protocol will enhance cross-chain liquidity and user onboarding by enabling seamless asset transfers to and from Status Network.

Context: Why Status Network?

Status Network is a next-generation L2 that redefines user experience and app development through:

  • Gasless Transactions: Users enjoy free transactions with no need to bridge gas, reducing friction and enhancing accessibility.

  • Sustainable Public Funding: A native funding pool driven by community governance ensures ongoing support for app builders and developers.

  • zkEVM Scalability: Built on Linea’s zkEVM rollup stack, Status Network achieves high throughput and low latency, with Ethereum-grade security.

  • Focusing on Decentralization: Designed to be censorship-resistant, it empowers communities with full autonomy.

About IFT

Status Network is being bootstrapped by the Institute of Free Technologies (IFT). IFT is dedicated to building tools and protocols that promote digital sovereignty, privacy, and decentralization. It supports open-source projects that align with these values, ensuring technologies remain accessible and censorship-resistant.

About Status App

The Status App, a flagship project of IFT, is a secure, private messenger, crypto wallet, and Web3 browser all in one. It allows users to send encrypted messages, store and manage crypto assets, and access decentralized applications seamlessly.

Hop Protocol Already Integrated with Status App

The Status App already integrates Hop Protocol for cross-chain bridging, offering users a seamless experience for asset transfers across multiple chains. With the upcoming integration of Status Network into the app, deploying Hop Protocol on Status Network becomes critical. This deployment will:

  • Enhance the user experience by providing a unified, frictionless environment for bridging assets within the Status ecosystem.

  • Strengthen the synergy between Status App and Status Network, leveraging Hop’s capabilities for fast, secure, and cost-efficient cross-chain transactions.

Rationale for Hop Deployment

1. Expanded Ecosystem

  • Boost TVL: Status Network targets $100M in yield-bearing TVL by September 2026, providing a significant liquidity base for Hop to tap into.

  • Attract Active Users: Status Network’s free transactions and frictionless onboarding model will bring a diverse user base, enhancing Hop’s cross-chain utility.

  • Gaming, Social and Prediction Markets: Status Networks focus on Gaming, Social and Prediction Markets will bring a new category of cross-chain users.

2. Optimized UX for Cross-Chain Users

  • Gasless transactions simplify asset bridging, addressing a common pain point for users migrating between chains.

  • Seamless integration with Status’ Wallet app ensures a smooth user experience for both Web3 novices and power users.

3. Alignment of Values

Both Hop Protocol and Status Network share a commitment to:

  • Open-source collaboration.

  • Decentralized governance.

  • Enhanced user accessibility across chains.

4. Strategic Timing

Deploying early in Status Network’s growth cycle (testnet launch: February 2025, mainnet launch: September 2025) positions Hop as one of the early cross-chain bridges for the network, capturing early adopters and locking in market share.

Proposed Integration

Deployment Scope

  • Deploy Hop’s bridging contracts on Status Network’s zkEVM rollup.

  • Enable asset bridging for major tokens across multiple networks.

Integration Points

1. Status Wallet Integration:

  • Native integration into Status Wallet for frictionless bridging.

  • Leverage Status Wallet’s user-friendly UI to attract non-technical users.

2. Developer Support:

  • Provide Hop’s SDK and API for Status Network developers to integrate cross-chain functionality into their apps.

3. Funding pool:

  • Hop can also partake in the network’s native funding pool and ability to receive funding from the pool.

Benefits to Hop Protocol

1. Increased Adoption

Status Network’s focus on onboarding anime mobile games and MAG developers ensures an influx of active users requiring bridging services.

2. Fee Revenue Growth

The network’s projected growth in TVL and transaction volume will translate into higher fees for Hop Protocol.

3. First-Mover Advantage

Hop can establish itself as the premier cross-chain bridge on Status Network, capturing the loyalty of early adopters.

Technical Feasibility

  • Status Network’s zkEVM is fully EVM-compatible, enabling straightforward deployment of Hop’s smart contracts.

  • Linea’s robust zkEVM stack ensures high performance and reliability, aligned with Hop’s operational standards.

Incentive Alignment

To encourage Hop’s deployment and ensure mutual success, Status Network proposes:

  1. Fees: HOP would be able to generate revenue from the network, similar to the Status App Users.

  2. $KARMA Rewards: Chance for Hop users and LPs receive bonus $KARMA, increasing their governance influence and incentivizing deeper engagement. $KARMA is a non-transferable ERC20 Token which functions as the governance and engagement token of Status Network. Earning $KARMA will give users power over the network and vote on governance and funding pool allocations.

  3. Marketing Partnership: Joint campaigns to promote Hop’s deployment, leveraging Status Network’s strong presence in Korea and South East Asian markets.

Deployment Timeline

  1. March 2025: Hop testnet deployment alongside Status Network’s public testnet.

  2. September 2025: Mainnet deployment of Hop Protocol on Status Network.

  3. October 2025: Joint marketing and user acquisition campaign.

Conclusion

Deploying Hop Protocol on Status Network aligns perfectly with both ecosystems’ goals of improving cross-chain accessibility and fostering decentralization. This integration will enable Hop to capture a growing user base, deepen its liquidity network, and strengthen its position as the leading cross-chain solution.

We urge the Hop community to support this proposal and join us in building the future of seamless cross-chain transactions on Status Network.

Hi Rahul, Thank you for taking the time to share this proposal. This proposal was lightly discussed in the community call that took place earlier this week and the consensus so far is that integrations like these should be put on hold until V2 comes out. Authereum Labs mentioned that integrations will likely be easier once V2 is deployed therefore in my opinion the community should re-explore this integration once that takes place.
