Authereum Labs is Stepping Back

This is a difficult update to share, but we want to be direct and transparent.

Authereum Labs will be stepping back as the primary development partner for Hop Protocol. Simply put, we’re out of gas. After a difficult push to deliver Hop Rails with limited resources, we are failing to see a path forward to bring it to market amongst strong and well-funded competition.

This wasn’t an easy decision. Hop has been at the center of our lives since we first launched the demo back in January 2021 as the first cross-chain protocol of it’s kind. We’re incredibly proud of what we built, the community that formed around it, and the role Hop played in shaping how people think about cross-rollup liquidity.

We’re deeply grateful for the opportunity we had and to the investors, developers, operators, governance participants, partners, and users who trusted Hop with real value over the years. The community consistently showed up with thoughtfulness and patience, and that’s something we don’t take lightly.

Over the coming period, we’ll do what we reasonably can to help with a clean transition and to leave things in a sensible state. Beyond that, Authereum Labs will no longer be driving development or day-to-day stewardship of Hop.

Thank you for building this with us. Whatever comes next for Hop, we’re proud of what was created here.

If you are giving up, at the very least publish all private repos/code and DAO assets for community devs to continue work. It would be a shame for both the protocol brand and v2 progress going to waste.
