[Grant Proposal] Hop Protocol Metrics Dashboard

Project Name: Hop Protocol Metrics Dashboard

Project Description

The goal of this project is to create a comprehensive and maintainable dashboard on Dune that tracks key metrics of the Hop Protocol, including fees, unique users, and daily transactions. This dashboard will provide the Hop community and DAO with real-time insights into protocol performance, making it easier to monitor growth and user engagement. Leveraging Dune Spellbook, a tool that standardizes and simplifies complex data queries, will ensure accurate and scalable analytics that can be easily maintained and updated to include new bridge pairs, networks, and future protocol versions.

Hop Protocol already has a namespace in Dune Spellbook: Hop Protocol Flows Spell on Dune Spellbook. I will contribute to and leverage this namespace by adding additional spells and utilizing them to build dashboard(s) on Dune.

Team Member Roles & Background

@mtitus6 (titey) - Project Lead and Sole Contributor

  • Background: I have experience with Dune Analytics, creating insightful dashboards for the Uniswap and Rocket Pool communities. My expertise lies in organizing and translating raw blockchain data into valuable, accessible insights for both protocols and communities. I have also contributed to Dune’s Spellbook an open-source repository, to structure data into a more usable, and scalable format than how it natively exists.

Requested Grant Size & Justification

  • Amount: $15,000
  • Justification: This grant will fund the creation of detailed and reliable data tables on Dune Spellbook, and Dune dashboard(s) that tracks key metrics of the Hop protocol. The requested funds account for the time and resources needed to design, implement, and document the dashboard to ensure it remains a valuable asset to the Hop Protocol community. The funds will also include support for the dashboard for up to three months following it’s launch to address any minor changes or bugs.

Grant Objectives & Purpose

The main objective is to enhance the Hop Protocol’s data visibility by creating a dashboard that allows the community and team to effectively monitor essential metrics. This aligns with the protocol’s goal to increase transparency, improve decision-making, and encourage community-driven insights.

Project Benefit to Protocol or DAO

This dashboard will serve as a critical tool for Hop’s growth analysis, making metrics like daily transactions, fees, and user count accessible to all. By tracking these key indicators, the DAO can quickly assess the protocol’s health and engage in data-driven governance.

Proof of Concept / MVP

Previous work with Dune has demonstrated feasibility, particularly through my contributions to the Rocket Pool community. My use of Dune Spellbook ensures that foundational data tables are created following best practices, guaranteeing accurate and scalable metrics.

Grant Execution Strategy

Methodology

Queries and tables will be created using Dune Spellbook to maintain high quality, accuracy, and maintainability. Spellbook’s standardized tables will simplify the dashboard creation process, ensuring a solid, reusable foundation that can scale as Hop Protocol grows.

Milestone Plans

  1. Initial Data Collection (Week 1-2): Identify and source all relevant on-chain data for Hop metrics.
  2. Spellbook Submissions (Week 3-6): Develop standardized tables and queries, submitting them to Spellbook for future reuse.
  3. Dashboard Development (Week 7-9): Integrate tables into an interactive, user-friendly dashboard.
  4. Testing and Feedback (Week 10-11): Perform QA, testing, and refinements based on feedback.
  5. Final Deployment and Documentation (Week 12): Launch the dashboard and create documentation for future maintainers.
  6. Support (Week 13-15): Monitor the dashboard function and make any nesscessary adjustments or bug fixes.

Risk Assessment

  • Data Consistency: To mitigate risks of inconsistent data, Spellbook’s standardized tables will ensure accurate, reusable metrics.
  • Evolving Protocol Changes: The dashboard will be built with modular components, allowing for future expansion and updates as the protocol evolves and expands to new pairs and networks.

Metrics for Success

  • Dashboard completion on schedule, with full deployment on Dune.
  • Spellbook submissions approved and integrated.
  • Adoption by the Hop community and regular usage tracked through Dune’s starring system.
  • Positive feedback from the Hop Protocol team and community.

The council has reviewed your application and has voted to not move forward with the project. We thank you for your application. In order to maintain transparency, vote counts and rationales are below:

  • Bob Rossi [Reject]: “In a vacuum, I think this is a solid proposal. The applicant has good background experience and has a great vision for what this can become both short term and in the future. I also believe the Spellbook integration is great value add. However, two other quality applicants have applied for this same RFP. I have to factor in cost relative to the entire grant budget and at 3x the cost of the other two applicants, I have voted to reject.”

  • rxpwnz [Reject]: “While there is a clear need for a quality dashboard, the requested grant amount is disproportionately high compared to the total allocation for the grant program, especially considering the presence of other experienced applicants. For these reasons, I will be rejecting this proposal.”
